An unprecedented number of civilians have become displaced due to international war. In an attempt to accommodate the thousands of people seeking refuge, grid like housing networks have been setup across the globe.
Recognising the effects of the global refugee crisis. A community centre located at the Barangaroo Headland has the potential to stand as an iconic interior space. Assisting the City of Sydney’s commitment to stand as a successful Refugee Welcome Zone.
Architecturally, the notion of a grid can be understood as an organisational element. Within the community centre it is to be tested as an emblem of individualised flexible design. Taking inspiration from the possibility of establishing active human participation, the centre thrives on the development of individual components to produce a co-created community space.
