Today many people live in busy urban environments in which it can be hard to find relief. Escape on the Railway is a 4.5 hectare post-industrial site in the North Eveleigh precinct of the Central to Eveleigh Corridor.
Escape on the Railway is a restorative park investigating psychological and physical interaction. Walking is used as a conceptual driver and he railway tracks to inform design character. The park represents a transformed intensity of ecology, activities, sensory and spatial aspects from Redfern Station to Paint Shop.
The dense planting areas from a gateway at the park entrance which connects to the platform of Redfern Station. The strong contrast in spatial quality here provides a feeling of escape and respite for those arriving by train. The urban forest, grassland and open plaza provide varied walking experiences, and opportunities for reflection, meditation, and restoration.
