Redfern Forum is an inclusive design proposition that introduces an urban forum as a means of mitigating displacement caused by gentrification in Redfern. Socially inclusive design focuses on the intrinsic and local community character to reduce social tension inherent in the process of gentrification.
Design principles were formulated to create a place for the community voice and build on Redfern’s culture of graffiti to reinforce community identity. Street art in Redfern is a means of place making and affords colour and identity to the area. The Forum allows for flexible program, and thus improves inclusiveness to all Redfern community members and visitors. The flexibility allows the community to take ownership and program the space it as they see fit.
