Eveleigh is an urban precinct that is facing dramatic climate pressures: high entropy, loss of urban habitats, increased density and energy demands.Urban Eco-Shelter builds upon the theory of ecological urbanism to help us prepare for future environmental adversity. It explores the opportunities of the post-industrial site to adapt to climate change and act as an ecological shelter for people in our city.
Urban Eco-Shelter investigates the area from Redfern Station to Carriageworks in North Eveleigh from a perspective that shifts the focus to the city and facilitates ‘renewal’ of post-industrial site, rather than ‘restoration’ by using adaptive ecological design. The project investigates multiple layers of the site by revealing ecological processes and integrates manufactured and functional ecologies with new public life.
